Countdown to Open Art Competition

With now less than seven months to go before the Qube Open Art Exhibition displays the selected entries from this year’s Qube Open Art Competition, people are being encouraged to get involved. The Qube Open Competition runs from 14th September to 13th October 2012.

The theme for this year’s Open Art Competition is ‘Celebrate’ and work submitted can be by any medium, for example illustration, textile, sculpture, metal work, watercolour or jewellery.
There are two prizes on offer – for the Best in Show the prize is £1000 and the selected entry for the People’s Choice prize is gallery space at Qube gallery in 2013.

“The ‘Celebrate’ theme has been chosen to highlight Qube’s 10th birthday and we are very much looking forward to a busy year ahead” said Lindy Parkinson, Arts co-ordinator at Qube.

'Wilbur' is a full-time professional cartoonist and illustrator. His cartoons have appeared in Private Eye, Reader's Digest, The Spectator, Punch, The Times, The Independent and many others. He also works in the childrens' comics field, producing Mr Meecher The Uncool Teacher for The Dandy, as well as reviving old characters Winker Watson and The Badd Lads for the next Dandy annual. He has also worked in the book cover and illustration field. Wilbur will take you through the whole process of cartooning, beginning with drawing simple cartoon figures, right through to creating your own hilarious finished cartoons. Young or old, complete beginner or artistic genius... Wilbur will show you how just about anyone and everyone can enjoy cartooning.	13
