Our Volunteer befrienders offer weekly phone calls to people in the local community that feel lonely or isolated. Their role is to offer company and friendship, particularly to those struggling during lockdown and beyond.
Volunteer Befrienders should have the following key skills:
- Good listening skills and ability to show empathy with clients.
- To be reliable and to keep regular contact with their client.
- To be respectful of the client’s individuality.
- Awareness and / or understanding of the key issues facing the client.
Loneliness can affect anyone at any stage of life. Could you spare a couple of hours a week to be a friend to someone? That’s all it takes to transform a life! Get in touch with us for more information.
Here are two of our regular volunteers:
“I love doing it as much as the people I ring, they love getting a call, I was getting lonely too and I think it is a wonderful service.. Long may it continue” – Jane
“I am really pleased to be able to provide a chat and cheer people on a bit. It is important to make sure people felt they weren’t forgotten , especially the members who were used to coming to the social groups at Qube. We shared a giggle as it is not all miserable. I was able to put people in touch with Qube for a hot meal too, I think it is an excellent thing to do.” – Fran
