Nick Thursfield

I first came across Woodwork and woodturning whilst at school but soon discovered that I couldn’t cut a straight line no matter how I tried, so making round things appealed. I left school to take up a non-wood related apprenticeship and completely forgot about woodturning until I retired some 42 years later.

Most of the wood I use is native timber with the majority of that sourced locally.

When not in the workshop I can be found volunteering for the Shropshire Union Canal Society helping to restore the Montgomeryshire Canal, the Llanymynech Limekilns Heritage site helping to maintain the grounds and, until recently, Dial-a-Ride (where I hope to return).

My wood-turnings are on display at Whittington Castle and can, under normal conditions, be seen at various shows and exhibitions during the year.
