Upcoming exhibitions at Qube Gallery

This year will see the return of some of our favourite exhibitions including the Qube Open Art Competition, the Millicent Kaye Exhibition and the fabulous Christmas Crafts at the end of the year.

Qube Open 2019

2nd August to 30th September

This annual event returns for 2019 with a brand new theme. This year artists were invited to submit work in any medium on the theme ‘Inclusion’. The winner of the Best in Show prize, highly commended and shortlisted works are on display until the end of September. Voting for the People’s Choice Prize takes place in the gallery throughout the exhibition.

The Big House

1st to 31st August

The Big House is an installation piece by Australian artists, Catherine Blamey and Kate Shone, both with family history in Shropshire. This work of copper repousse and stained glass explores the topic of illegitimacy, the rights of servant women and the epigenetic trauma arising from the stigma of being illegitimate in Victorian England. The outcome is a memorial dedicated to all of the servant women of Shropshire at that time. Click here for more info…

Jennifer & Derek Harrison

1st to 31st August

On the Balcony Gallery this August is a joint exhibition by artists Jennifer and Derek Harrison. Jennifer paints a variety of subject matter from whimsical seaside scenes to wildlife, with the occasional ‘commission’, and has sold many pictures to clients at home and abroad. Derek prefers to paint scenes which are ‘representative’ and hopefully familiar to the viewer. While recognising that this approach is somewhat ‘unfashionable’ he enjoys recreating experiences.

Old Oswestry Hillfort Creativity Group

3rd to 31st October
The group brings together visual artists, writers, poets, makers and others who find creative inspiration in the ancient setting of the Oswestry hillfort. The hillfort is many things: a unique ancient site – “The Stonehenge of the Iron Age”, a critical habitat for threatened native species, and a much-loved local landmark and never ceases to provoke and inspire creative response. This exhibition brings together just a small sample of such responses. In doing so, they hope to inspire others to explore and get to know Old Oswestry Hillfort – one of this town’s best-kept secrets.

Arts and Crafts Exhibition

5th November to 23rd December

Over the festive period the gallery will be filled with locally made arts and crafts, ranging from woodwork, ceramics and textiles to jewellery, books and fine art. The perfect place to pick up unique Christmas gifts!
