Art-E-Fact Workshop with Jean Atkin

Jean Atkin is one of the 4 selected artists for the ART-efact residency this summer in Oswestry. Jean has worked as a poet in education and community projects since 2011.  Her award-winning work has been widely published and commissioned, including on BBC Radio, and often focuses on place, work, and history.  Her latest books are The Bicycles of Ice and Salt (IDP, 2021) and Fan-peckled (Fair Acre Press 2021).  She creates friendly, inventive workshops for people of all ages.

Jean will deliver a creative writing workshop at Qube in conjunction with the ART-efact residency, inspired by the riches to be found in Oswestry Archives and Museum.  You’ll have the chance to explore the past life of the town through its maps, lists, grocers’ ledgers, reminiscences and old photographs.  Jean will provide a range of prompts and ideas to start you writing your own responses, so we bring to life the atmospheres, the familiarities and the strangenesses of our local past.
