Craven Arms Community Gardens – Childrens Group

The Helper – teamed with a Mentor

CACG aims are to give young children the opportunity to actively learn the role of the gardener/horticulturist creating green spaces helping mental issues, loneliness, integration and social communication. Creating a desire to achieve better, create a purpose in life whilst beautifying a vacant plot. To encourage young children to eat healthy, create awareness to reduce the size of landfill, to help mitigate global warming and benefit the ecosystem. Whilst enjoying wildlife and nature in CACG

Tasks:

Meet weekly – Tuesday- session 3.30pm to 4.30pm [need to attend 30mins before and after]

Meet weekly- Saturday- session 11.00am to 12noon [need to attend 30mins before and after]

Help Mentor prepare for group and tidy after each session. Keep area hazard free and tidy.

Meet children and check register, toilet and hand wash, walk to gardens [2min walk]

Additional Responsibilities:

Health/Safety-To know First aid box location plus procedure for incident.

I.D. any concerns of children to the Mentor

Be aware of CACG Constitution and general rules.


Every volunteer will receive our mandatory training: history of site, orientation of site, goals of project they currently work on.

Every volunteer will be trained in all tasks to be carried out within the role.

No volunteer will be expected to carry out their duties unsupervised until they are confident and skilled in these duties.

All volunteers will be supported by a MENTOR and their skills and contribution to the group will be reviewed on a regular basis.

Additional information:

Volunteers are covered by The Discovery center and Grow Cook Learn for public liability.

Volunteers must be 18yrs or over. There is no upper limit

Session volunteers aged 18yrs or over who have left school are required to complete a DBS check

Helper needs: Passion – Compassion – Teamwork – and a positive Can Do attitude.

What skills do I need?

Skills:

Medium degree of fitness required: collecting tools and help complete garden tasks.

The HELPER needs to be an outdoorsy type with communication skills and manual dexterity.

The HELPER is required to be prompt and reliable in meeting all dates and times agreed
