At the Centre, OsNosh are creating a convenient and accessible meeting point for local people to learn more about healthy food: how to source it, grow it, cook it, and enjoy it. Through our community rooftop garden project we want to teach people about the various ways to grow food and help to turn our urban space into a thriving food forest.


Tasks and responsibilities may include any of the following:

·       Watering, weeding and pruning plants

·       Sowing seeds and repotting

·       Digging and building beds

·       Seed saving

·       General organising and tidying of gardens and work areas

·       Artistic projects that make the garden a calm relaxing space to be in

 

Additional Responsibilities:

·       Understand the importance of the groups Health & Safety procedures.

·       Understand the importance of confidentiality & safeguarding vulnerable children/and or adults.

·       Be aware of the standards set by OsNosh and the need to work to these standards at all times.


Additional information:

·       Volunteers are covered by OsNosh’s public liability and personal accident insurance while working with us.

·       Volunteers have to be 18 or over. There is no upper age limit.

·       Young people under 16 who attend the Centre must be accompanied by a parent/carer/or responsible adult.

·       Young people aged between 16 and 18 who attend the Centre must have parent/carer consent.

·       Vulnerable adults must be accompanied by a parent or carer.


What skills do I need?

Skills:

·       A certain degree of physical fitness is needed.

·       The garden volunteer works as part of a team.

·       The garden volunteer should be reliable and arrive to help on the dates and times agreed.


Training:

·       Every volunteer will receive our mandatory building and garden induction.

·       Every volunteer will have access & be signposted to training which the group feels is appropriate for the role.

·       Every volunteer will be trained in all the tasks they are required to carry out to ensure they have the skills and confidence to fulfil their role.

·       No volunteer will be expected to carry out their duties unsupervised until they are confident and skilled in these duties.

·       All volunteers will be supported by the Lead Gardener and their skills and contribution to the group will be reviewed on a regular basis.
