Our Nordic Walking Helper Volunteer will help with our Nordic Walking group, which aims to give people of all abilities the opportunity to have some physical exercise whilst enjoying the local countryside. This will run on a weekly basis in the same location. 



·        Being available to volunteer for a minimum of two hours per week on an ongoing basis.

·        Support with coordinating the walks under the supervision of the group leader.

·        Help with refreshments as and when is required.

·        Building a sensitive and caring friendship with the client.

·        Being understanding rather than judgemental about a client’s situation or circumstances.

·        Respecting the confidentiality of clients at all times.

·        Establishing and maintaining appropriate boundaries.

·        Informing the Project Co-ordinator of any concerns about the client.

What skills do I need?

Volunteer Helpers should have the following key skills: 

·        Good listening skills and ability to show empathy with clients

·        Be chatty and personable

·        Will need to have some physical ability

·        Be comfortable in being outdoors during the activity

·        To be reliable

·        To be respectful of the client’s individuality

·        Awareness and / or understanding of the key issues facing the client


Once recruited the Volunteer Befriender will be contacted at least monthly by the Project Co-ordinator in order to record how the befriending match is progressing.  This gives the volunteer the opportunity to raise any concerns or queries which they may have.

 Additional information

  • We offer an initial taster session, following registration, and then a four-week trial period which is reviewed for future progression.
  • Travel expenses will be paid at the rate of 45p per mile up to a distance of 10 miles from your home to the location.
