As a former student of Sydney University’s College of the Arts, I have been very inspired by some of the amazing contemporary Aboriginal art around Australia. It very much influenced the direction I wanted to take with this piece ‘Lakeside’ and other pieces in this series.
The colours and movement reflect what one might experience near water on a long summers day… from floating lily pads to hovering dragonflies and dappled rays of sunshine. The texture – which creates the movement – allows one to almost feel that slight breeze going through the leaves and long grasses.
The only thing missing is a boat because as everyone knows, “there is nothing — absolutely nothing — half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.” (Kenneth Grahame, Wind in the Willows)
