“I have always been inspired by nature and plants. I currently live in a valley surrounded by the stunning scenes of North Wales. I studied Fine Art and Psychology at Degree Level, and went on to qualify as an Art Psychotherapist. I have worked as an Art Therapist for nearly twenty years. Cyanotypes are a stunning collaboration between the sun, the elements and the natural world. The process allows me to capture the tiny intricate details of nature, which are often missed.”
Cyanotype (Sun Printing) is an ancient photographic process created by John Herschel in 1842. A mixture of Ferric Ammonium Citrate and Potassium Ferricyanide are mixed together to create a light sensitive solution. The solution is applied to water colour paper under subdued lighting and left to dry in the dark. Natural material is then positioned on the paper and exposed to sunlight. When the print is rinsed, the result is a beautiful blue toned image.
