In August 2019 I went on holiday to Zermatt, Switzerland and walked and sketched under the Matterhorn. In August 2020 a very different holiday was taken as days out in the Shropshire Hills, particularly around the Stiperstones. During the lockdowns in the winter even these outings were not permissible, so were just pleasant outings to be remembered at home. The inspiration for abstracting an interior around a ‘window’ came from some of the paintings of the late British artist Patrick Caulfield. The crucifixion (top right) is copied from Holbein’s The Ambassadors’ as symbolic of all the sacrifices over recent months.
