I absolutely love taking photographs and it has been a serious hobby of mine for 6 years. All the pictures I’ve entered for the open this year have been taken locally – two in my garden! I have held two exhibtiions at Qube, entered various competitions and sold quite a lot of my work – something I find very humbling and I’m very proud of.
Bailey Street, Oswestry – this picture was taken early one morning before I went to work. I was lucky the umbrella’s were up and the morning light shining into the alleyway brought the colours alive. This year I had the photographs onto giclee paper and the results are amazing. The quality of the paper and printing is exceptional. This photograph is very popular amongst Oswestrians.
The Iris and the Hosta – this picture was an experiment with double exposure in my camera (no post editing). Last year during lockdown I challenged myself to another dimension of photography that I had wanted to try for some time. The photograph is taken in my garden. First I took a picture of the hosta leaf and then one of the Iris. Two separate photographs which blended together in camera and this was the result. The shape of the hosta leaf and the colour of the iris reminds me of a painted fan. This picture was selected for the BBC News website ‘Your pictures’ page and the theme was ‘Outdoor Art’. This picture is also printed onto giclee paper for this exhibition.
The Shape of Trees – this photograph was taken at Tedsmore, a tiny hamlet near West Felton. Trees are a favourite of mine to photograph and at sunset you get the shape of the tree more vividly. The sun was dipping just over the horizon on this evening.
Clematis – this plant climbs up the back wall at home. Each year it produces flowers the size of side plates. This time just before the flower unfurled I was able to photograph the stamen through a little opening at the tip of the petals. Open or closed the flowers are beautiful and every year I take pictures of them. I think this is one of my favourite ones just because its so unusual to see the stamen all packed together like this and their colour is stunning.
