About

I am an Environmental Artist based in Flintshire, working with a wide range of mixed media and materials that are used to create temporary installations, drawings and sculpture.
I attended Wrexham and Edinburgh Colleges of Art ,graduating in 1989 and since then, have been self employed as a professional artist exhibiting my work in a wide variety of galleries and venues across the UK and internationally. I work in contrasting rural and urban locations and have undertaken many residencies, exchange schemes and projects both at home and abroad. I have been awarded travel grants and awards and have been the recipient of numerous prizes and bursaries. In addition, I conduct art workshops for schools ,galleries and community groups working with people of all ages and abilities.
The artwork submitted for the exhibition is a pencil and mixed media designsheet documenting ideas for gallery installations based on found Victorian and Edwardian pottery. The Ceramics finds were harvested from beaches around Whitehaven , West Cumbria where domestic refuse was dumped off the harbour in past times and subsequently gets washed up on the beach. The small fragments have decorative motifs based on aspects related to the natural world such as flowers and butterflies as well as everyday images of domestic life and countryside scenery. These small fragments give fascinating historically informative insights into past generations as well as providing a rich source of visual inspiration in which to develop ideas for future artworks
