Qube volunteer selected as Community Champion

Sue Coxhead, volunteer for Qube’s social groups, has been chosen by Oswestry Town Mayor, Councillor Olly Rose, as the Oswestry Town Council ‘Community Champion’ for the second quarter of the year.

Sue has been volunteering with us since 2016 and is a retired occupational therapist. She joined Qube to support with administration work and helped on reception. Over time it became clear that Sue had so many skills we could utilise, and she was keen to continue help and support this organisation. Sue gave time to support the social prescribing project and was a great sounding board having a wealth of experience, working with families and individuals in her career.

During lockdown Sue was part of the first cohort of telephone befriending volunteers. She was a lifeline to several members, regularly calling and chatting, making sure that they had everything they needed and was always compassionate and understanding. When the regulations eased and face-to-face meetings were possible, Sue began befriending and supporting individual members, with some very poignant and affirming experiences.

Sue is known by many as a valued and appreciated member of Oswestry’s vital community services and definitely one of our unsung heroes.

We’d like to offer a huge congratulations to Sue on this achievement – she’s an inspiration to us all, a true Community Champion.
