What does a Shropshire Community Blood Pressure Check volunteer do?

  • Start conversations about cardiovascular disease (CVD), what the risk factors are and what action can be taken to reduce them.
  • Deliver blood pressure checks to individuals within the community and sign post them to their local GP or community pharmacist where appropriate.
  • Provide detail and guidance on what the blood pressure check involves, including the way in which data is recorded and transferred, and have the results and pathways explained in a straightforward way.
  • Use every opportunity to encourage discussion around CVD and sharing key facts.
  • Share helpful information and signpost to local GP & health services and provide reassurance to their community.
  • Deliver the messages with care and sensitivity and in a way that is meaningful to their community.

Meet Jo Longetti, the Blood Pressure Champion Coordinator

I’ll be leading groups of volunteers to run pop-up blood pressure checking events across Shropshire. I see this as a great opportunity to raise awareness of the dangers of hypertension which often goes undiagnosed and can be a silent killer, causing strokes and heart attacks if untreated. I am looking forward to reaching out to the diverse communities we have in Shropshire, and getting to know people in more rural areas too, both as volunteers and service users.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or would like to know more about the blood pressure checks project, please get in touch! Call 01691 656882 or email jo.longetti@qube-oca.org.uk
