What is Chrysalis?

Chrysalis is a support project for women delivered by women.

Who are YSS? YSS is an independent charity that works with some of the most marginalised people in society. These include children as young as seven who are acting as young carers, families who need additional support and people coming out of prison. YSS is there to support and empower people to make positive choices and have better lives. Many of the people we help have little of what most of us take for granted – whether that is a roof over our head, positive family relationships, strong friendships, good friends.

How does Chrysalis help? We know that sitting at a desk and signposting services to the people we work with just doesn’t work. Our YSS Chrysalis worker and our valued volunteers go out into the community and meet the women referred in their homes and local venues at times that suit them. The work takes place across Shropshire and Telford.

What qualifications and skills do you need? No specific qualifications are required as full training will be given.

The most important things you would need to bring to the role are; be able to quickly develop rapport; be a good listener, have empathy, show compassion, be committed to helping to make a difference and have a sense of humour.

What might you have to do? You may have to help your mentee sort out the their benefits, apply for housing, look at the their budgets or just provide a bit of emotional support over a cup of tea.

You will need a driving licence and access to vehicle, which would need to be insured for business use as we work with women across the whole of Shropshire and Telford.

This role requires a DBS which we would do with you.

Mileage and any other out of pocket expenses incurred during your work will be reimbursed to you by YSS.
