WZRDS OF OZ

‘Wizards of Os’ offered local young people the opportunity to develop musical skills and build confidence through a programme of creative music workshops, working with industry professionals.

Improvisation and Jamming

Led by musician Adrian Plant and funded by Youth Music, the project hosted a series of music sessions looking at song writing, recording, improvisation and jamming, percussion workshops, ‘open-mic’, band building and stagecraft. Adrian was joined by musician Kate Turley, guest musicians and support staff and between them they worked with a core group of 18 young people.

Although there is no charge to take part, those involved were asked to commit to a programme of 30 sessions between September 2018 and April 2019. Participants were offered the chance to gain their bronze-level Arts Award, a nationally recognised level 1 qualification.

The participants had the opportunity to watch live music at the Hermon Chapel, Oswestry and Llangollen Pavilion. They held their own live performance at Qube in December 2018 and finished the project with a final gig at Hermon Chapel, a vibrant live music venue in Oswestry. Over 100 tickets were sold to members of the public.

Help Us Continue

The project has recently secured a small amount of funding from the Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club to run three further sessions, with the aim of performing at the local Youth Music Festival .

We are currently looking at ways to continue this project. If you are a young musician and would like to get involved please contact us for updates.
