An OCA Trustee Tale… a Q&A with Hilary Rees

An OCA Trustee Tale… a Q&A with Hilary Rees

Hilary joined Oswestry Community Action (OCA), as a Trustee in early 2025.  We had a chat with her to find out about her time as a Trustee so far.

How did you hear about the trustee position at OCA?

I’m fortunate that another of the Trustees is a friend, so it was through a conversation with them that I became aware of the trustee opening, which sparked the initial interest.

What interested you about the role of trustee at OCA?

Oswestry has been my home for more than 45 years and I love the town and its residents. I wanted to support the varied and important services offered by OCA to the community and by becoming a Trustee I could do just that.

How have you found your experience to date?

My experience so far has been both interesting and insightful, but ultimately, I have been impressed by the high standards and professionalism of both the OCA staff and trustees.

Have you experienced any surprises along the way?

It’s occurred to me the how important marketing is for any business, but especially to a charity like OCA. We have so many fantastic services to offer, but conveying the message to the local communities is proving difficult and people aren’t fully aware of the support that OCA has to offer. OCA provide various services that could make a difference to so many lives, so we need to be loudly singing its praises.

What are your future visions for OCA from a trustee perspective?

As a trustee, I want to ensure that OCA survives and thrives in the future. Whether that involves bolstering the fundraising efforts or coming forward with prospective service ideas, I’m willing to offer my support.
