To get your creative juices flowing Qube’s Arts & Creativity Officer, Gemma has pulled together another jam-packed month of workshops to keep all you keen artists busy! Here’s what we have coming up…

Kids Summer Sketchbook Morning

Wednesday 2nd August 2023 | 10.00 am – 12.00 pm | £3

An opportunity for creative young people to attend an informal sketchbook session. Spend the morning sketching, drawing, and experimenting with materials with the guidance and inspiration of our Arts & Creativity Officer, Gemma.

Sketchbooks and materials provided, but please feel free to bring your own!

Open to children from the age of six to sixteen.

Untutored Life Drawing

Saturday 5th August 2023 & Saturday 12th August 2023 |10 am – 12pm | £8

Of course, Life Drawing had to have a place on the August roster of workshops – it’s a staple for us here at Qube.

Our untutored sessions allow you to have an undisturbed two hours to create a masterpiece of your life model in a medium that suits you, that could be paint, pastels, pencils, and more.

Mondays | 11.00am – 1.00pm and 2.00pm-4.00pm | 10 sessions for £80

Develop your creative skills with this fabulous session run by Joseph Schneider. This session is for beginners and anyone looking for some guidance to develop their artistic skills.

Designed to be fun, friendly and informal, this session also aims to give you the confidence to explore new techniques and mediums so you can get to know what you love working with.

ART-efact Workshop with Jean Atkin

Wednesday 16th August 2023|10 am – 12 pm| Free

 Jean Atkin has been selected as one of the artists in residency for the ART-efact project in Oswestry. A poet in education and community projects since 2011, Jean will deliver a creative writing workshop, inspired by the riches found in the Oswestry Archives and Museum.

Fun with Fossils

Tuesday 15th August 2023 | 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm | £10

 Suitable for all ages.

 Geologist, Martin Carruthers provides a fantastic interactive experience that includes a 45-60-minute talk as well as a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with his extensive collection of fossils. You’ll be able to handle and explore the fascinating world of fossils (a magnifying glass is recommended), plus the session will conclude with a hands-on session where you’ll play at creating a geological timescale using fossils.

 Art History Special

Wednesday 30th August 2023 | 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm | £10

Art Historian, Sarah Gathercole has created another fascinating and inspiring art history talk.

This lecture will focus on women artists that work with the mediums of art that have traditionally been classed as craft and not high art. The lecture will explore the many pioneering women who are changing that perception and look at art forms of fibre art, soft sculpture, quilting, tapestries, applique, embroidery, and more.
