14 Mar Community Engagement Officer Lou Woolcock and Social Prescribing Day
19th March is Social Prescribing Day, an annual celebration of the people, organisations and communities who make social prescribing happen. Since 2019, thousands of local, national and international organisations, link workers, medical professionals, academics and students have taken part across the world.
But what is Social Prescribing? It’s a free, confidential service to help you improve your health and well-being. Qube is proud to be the leading partner in our Social Prescribing service. Our trained advisors can help you access further support and community groups in your local area, such as walking groups, befriending, housing advice, fitness classes, social activities and employment support, to name a few. We would love to introduce you to Louise Woolcock, Qube’s Community Engagement Officer.
About her role, Lou says, “In my role I have the privilege of working alongside over 300 different community organisations across North Shropshire, offering health and wellbeing related activity. I regularly host community connector network meetings, which promotes social prescribing, shares information about community groups, provides opportunity for collaborative working and facilitates new and needed health and wellbeing activity to take place.”
“I also collate community activity information into a bi-weekly ebulletin that is sent out to over 700 people around our county. I also regularly support and visit health and wellbeing events throughout the county. In my personal life I hugely value the wellbeing benefits of being involved in a local running group and know the first hand impact on my mental and physical health through spending time in the outdoors.”
Community Connectors meetings are networking gatherings hosted by the social prescribing team, with an aim to connect different voluntary groups, community services and support organisations. The next meeting will be held at Oswestry Memorial Hall on April 10th at 10.30am – 12.30pm. To book a place, please contact Louise Woolcock on l.woolcock@qube-oca.org.uk or call 01691 656882.
To sign up for the ebulletin, please email ccnupdates@qube-oca.org.uk to be added to the mailing list. You can also send any posters/flyers/information to this email address to promote your health related community group, organisation, project, event or service.
