Oswestry Community Action (Qube) calls for more volunteer help

Oswestry Community Action (Qube) based in Oswestry is on the lookout for more volunteers. Volunteer support is pivotal to the retention and growth of the fundamental services they have to offer to the people in the local and wider Shropshire area.

The services Oswestry Community Action offer have been developed in response to the needs of the local community and ultimately aim to keep them engaged and support inclusivity and wellbeing. The majority of their services are aimed at those who are disadvantaged which includes disability, health (including mental health), unemployment, rural poverty and isolation.

Their Community Transport service is essential for enabling people in the community to get out and about with ease and makes a huge difference in their lives. The Dial-a-Ride and Community Car services make up a large proportion of this service and offer door-to-door transport for people without access to public transport or a car. The Shopmobility scheme is also available, where mobility scooters and wheelchairs can be hired.

Oswestry Community Action aims to keep people connected and engaged, and their Wellbeing and Befriending project is central to supporting this. Qube run twice-weekly Social Groups, which allows local people to meet new friends, reminisce, learn different skills, take part in fun activities, and there is an opportunity for those that are less confident to be paired with a Telephone Befriender for weekly check ins via the phone.

Chief Officer at Oswestry Community Action, Kim Wootton says; “Our current volunteers undertake fantastic work and we are incredibly appreciative of the time they give.  The recruitment of additional volunteers will enable us to help more local people and we are keen to expand our services.  We want our volunteers to enjoy being a part of Oswestry Community Action and, therefore, we spend time matching individuals to the right project.  As one of our volunteers you could be getting involved in our Community Transport service or supporting our Wellbeing and Befriending project.”

Without their fantastic, friendly team of volunteers, Oswestry Community Action wouldn’t be able to make the difference they do in the community. To enable Oswestry Community Action to support more of our local community, if you have some spare time and want to immerse yourself in a fabulous community project, please get in touch, email info@qube-oca.org.uk or call 01691 656882.
