05 May Oswestry Community Action take a look down memory lane with their Arts through the Covid Era exhibition
Oswestry Community Action (Qube) is taking a look at the arts that kept the community busy during the March 2020 Covid-19 lockdown with their latest exhibition.
To mark the passing of the fifth anniversary of the first lockdown, they’ve been collecting stories from local people to find out what they did with the seemingly never-ending expanse of time, where days quickly became weeks.
Whilst the lockdown was renowned for unimaginable losses, the trauma of social distancing, the inability to say goodbye to loved ones, and the unbelievable sacrifice of key workers, it was a period where the most useful thing we could do was stay at home. A time where the whole community, the whole world, were going through exactly the same emotions.
This exhibition shares the work of a diverse group of artists, from children who were as young as 5 at the time of the lockdown. From sketching to quilting and felting and collaging there is an array of different arts to explore, each one telling the individual’s story of their time in isolation.
Arts and Creativity Officer, Gemma Manning-Bentley says, “It’s been so inspiring to see the benefits of creativity in action and how important it is to have projects and outlets for emotions at difficult times. The stories that accompany these artworks are so important and we’re really grateful to all of the artists for sharing them with us.”
The Covid-19 Exhibition will be on show in the Oswestry Community Action gallery until 10th June so please come on in and explore the local arts of the Covid era. For further information, please contact us on 01691 656882 or email info@qube-oca.org.uk.
