Stockist Spotlight: Jez

We have a new stockist in the house here at Qube! Jez’s work will be right up your street if you’re a wildlife lover. Here, we catch up with Jez from Jems Wildlife Gems to find out the inspiration behind his work.

What inspired your work?

A lifelong interest in nature steered me to become a photographer, initially starting underwater, but now the passion and focus is purely on wildlife on dry land!  I guess like everyone else I started with bird feeders in the garden. This quickly developed into me using more natural perches to try to make the images look as real as possible. In other words, I wanted to bring the birds to me, but keep them in their own environment.

When lockdown prevented traveling to new locations for new subjects, the addition of a ‘pop-up’ hide turned my garden into an outdoor studio.

Tell us a bit about you
In 2021, my wife and I moved to rural Wales, purposely searching for a house surrounded by natural habitat – hence new photographic opportunities. We found a spot in Moelfre, Powys and have since worked tirelessly to create a wildlife haven. An orchard and woodland offered superb space, and the mature setting has provided a host of bird species, along with our very own family of badgers. The local lake also offers a wide range of subjects throughout the year, dragonflies another favourite during the warmer months.

Make sure you pop in to Qube to have a look around our gallery shop and see Jez’s wonderful work!
