Welcome to the Archipelagogo!

Welcome to the Archipelagogo!

We are thrilled to be hosting the “Archipelagogo” exhibition from internationally renowned artists Felt Mistress (Louise Evans) and Jonathan Edwards.

Archipelagogo is an exhibition featuring paintings, drawings and etchings and 3D soft sculptures inspired by the life, work and creativity of Tove Jansson. Rather than take inspiration purely from Jansson’s most famous creation, The Moomins, the exhibition is instead inspired by the things that inspired Jansson herself – art, love, family, travel and the geography of her native Finland.

The Archipelagogo is a group of islands and its inhabitants. Living separately but relying on each other for everything they need. Celebrating Tove Jansson’s values of tolerance, democracy and equality.

It was originally commissioned by the Lakes International Comic Art Festival and the Finnish Institute in London with the blessing of the Jansson family.

Felt Mistress AKA Louise Evans is a textile artist who creates a range of one-off creatures.

Louise originally trained in fashion design and millinery and has brought many of the skills learnt through years of work as a couture dress maker to the world of character design.

Clients include Selfridges, BBC, Cartoon Network, Stylist, Coca Cola, Skoda & Sesame Street.

Jonathan Edwards is an illustrator, comic artist and painter. He has worked for, amongst others, NME, MAD Magazine, Tank Girl, Mojo, Q. The Radio Times and created concept artwork for films and animation. He’s been a regular contributor to the Guardian since 1999. He also publishes regular collections of his travel sketchbooks and paintings from his trips to Japan and Europe.

Their work has been exhibited all over the world including shows in Tokyo. Osaka, Los Angeles, Mexico, Paris, Berlin and London and used in fashion shoots, ad campaigns, music videos and films.

Qube’s Art and Creativity Officer, Gemma Manning-Bentley, says “It is an absolute pleasure to host the Archipelagogo at Qube, and we hope that the people of Oswestry will enjoy visiting. We will be running several workshops for young people, as well as an art competition during the exhibition, please do keep an eye on our social media for updates!”
