19 Oct Lara: A Charity Heroes Award Nominee
Qube are incredibly proud of all our volunteers, and in particular we would like to shine a light upon our Charity Heroes Award Nominee, Lara, who has been volunteering with us for eight years and has become a valued member of our team.
Lara began her volunteer journey with us as a Community Transport Passenger Helper. After passing her driving test at the age of 47, she became a Volunteer Driver. Recently, when she was unable to drive for six weeks after surgery, she asked for an alternative role and became a Befriender at our weekly social group.
Generous with her time, Lara often volunteers between 2-3 days per week. She treats everyone equally and embraces diversity in our rural community – adapting her approach to consider each person’s individual needs. She also often goes above and beyond – once taking a passenger and two dogs 80 miles to stay with a relative to recuperate. Lara also helps out at events to promote our charity, and has even completed a parachute jump for Air Ambulance and raised over £1,207!
Lara says, “[…] it is so nice to be appreciated, knowing that I can give something back to the community, makes you feel happy that you are helping someone that wouldn’t be able to get out of the house if it wasn’t for volunteers at the Qube. Thank you to the Qube for helping me achieve this and giving me that opportunity to be part of a great team and knowing that we make a difference to people’s lives.”
Chief Officer at Qube Kim Wootton says, “We are delighted that Lara has been nominated for a Charity Heroes Award. Lara is a fantastic volunteer and a great asset to the Qube team. Without the commitment and dedication of our volunteers we would not be able to continue supporting our community.”
Lara volunteers because she wants to help people who are lonely and socially isolated. Through volunteering, she has developed her confidence and communication skills. If you would like to develop your skills and help people in your local community, get in touch and become a volunteer with us today by emailing us at info@qube-oca.org.uk or calling 01691 656 882.
