PURPOSE OF ROLE:
Volunteer Education Team members play a vital role in supporting the activities of the Learning Department at Weston Park. Around 7000 school children aged between 4 and 12 visit Weston every year to take part in indoor and outdoor curricular based activities delivered by EKO within the park and gardens as well as the activity rooms.
Education Team Volunteers are welcome to support our sessions (10am to 2pm) with school groups, working alongside our EKO Leaders. Although most roles involve supporting our outdoor activities (in all weathers!), it is not essential that you spend time outdoors, as there are indoor activities on offer, as well as plenty of clearing up after and preparing for the next activity too.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
· To support children and teachers, alongside the EKO Leaders, in both indoor and outdoor activities.
· To be proactive in approaching, welcoming and assisting children and teachers with the activities, responding calmly and professionally to any unexpected issues that may arise.
· To assist the EKO Leaders with any preparation work for making activities, such as cutting card, and making sure enough material is available for activity rooms when school groups arrive.
· To ensure some activities are reset and the indoor spaces are clean and tidy after activities.
· To be aware of, and adhere to, all health and safety guidance in place for the benefit of yourself and those around you.
· To provide information about Weston Park and the facilities available.
· To be clean and enthusiastic at all times, dressing appropriately for the particular activity, particularly when working outside. Weather appropriate clothing and footwear are essential.
· An enjoyment of, and interest in, the outdoors and nature and a desire to support the well-being and learning of children and adults.
· Good communication skills. Must be able work with children and adults effectively and empathetically.
· Excellent level of commitment and punctual for duty days
· Good level of stamina – activities require standing and walking for the majority of the day
· Health and Safety aware.
· An interest in the educational activities that Weston Park has to offer
· Be prepared to undergo an enhanced DBS check
Desirable skills and interests:
