Would you like to make a positive difference to the lives of our older residents living in our Retirement Living communities? Are you green fingered? Do you enjoy the outdoor life? Would you like to meet new people and share your love of gardening? Then we may have the perfect volunteering role for you!

We currently have an opportunity for a Volunteer Gardener at Porchfields in Monkmoor, Shrewsbury. This is a retirement living scheme of bungalows, where one of the residents, would benefit from an enthusiastic volunteer, who can provide some light weeding, pruning and some much-needed TLC to their garden.

As a Volunteer Gardener you will be looking will be providing residents with an inviting area in which to enjoy the outdoors. Duties may include:

- basic garden maintenance, including, planting, sewing, weeding, mulching, edging, raking, digging over, deadheading and bed preparation (no lawn mowing required).

- path sweeping and removing leaves in the autumn months, watering plants and shrubs in the hot summer months.

- working sometimes alone, but more often joined by residents in the garden, so we are looking for someone who can offer light conversation and companionship to any residents who may come along.

- encouraging resident garden enthusiasts to participate in the care of their own garden.

Care Plus commitment to you:

Induction programme to ensure you have the skills and confidence to fulfil your role.

All volunteers will require a DBS check which will be paid for by us.

Out of pocket expenses reimbursed, including travel costs

Additional training opportunities offered

All volunteers will be supported by the Engagement and Volunteer Team and their skills and contribution to the group will be reviewed on a regular basis.

WE KNOW THAT PEOPLE VOLUNTEER FOR MANY DIFFERENT REASONS. WHATEVER YOUR REASON FOR VOLUNTEERING AND WHATEVER TIME YOU ARE ABLE TO COMMIT, WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU. THERE IS NO UPPER AGE LIMIT TO VOLUNTEERING WITH US, HOWEVER YOU WILL NEED TO BE OVER THE AGE OF 18.
